Hi, my name is Anastacia Olivier, I grew up in a small town named Kranshoek where I joined the Born in Africa program in grade 2. I grew up living with my mother, father and brother. I lost my father at the age of 8 in grade 2 in a car accident. After the passing of my father, my mother met someone, and they gave me and my brother a sister. I went to Kranshoek Primary and Wittedrift High School. I’m currently studying Bachelor of education in intermediate phase for grade 4 -7 at Varsity College in Port Elizabeth, which I started in 2022. I want to make my mother proud and give her the life she couldn’t have; I want a job where I feel safe and secure and be the teacher any child can come to for help or even advice.
Anelisa Mbopa

Field of study: Bachelor Social Work
Anelisa grew up in Kranshoek and was accepted into the Born in Africa program when she was in Harkerville Primary school, along with her older sister Sixolile. Once she graduated from primary school, she attended Wittedrift High school. Anelisa worked incredibly hard at her academic career and really excelled, especially towards the last 2 years of her high school career. Not only did she do well academically, she also worked hard at becoming the voice for many who could not speak for themselves. Poetry competitions were a platform for her speak her truth, in beauty pageants she was able to advocate various social issues in the communities. Therefore, when she decided to pursue the very noble degree of Social Work, it came as no surprise. She was accepted at Stellenbosch University in 2024 and has the privilege of studying alongside her sister, who is also studying at Stellies through Born in Africa. This is an honour few siblings can claim! We are very proud to represent Anelisa and look forward to the next 4 years of supporting her!
Asemahle Mfiki

Field of study: Bachelor degree Commerce
Our Asemahle Mfiki has been a part of the Born in Africa program since she was a Crags Primary school learner. She proudly graduated from Wittedrift Highschool where she did our program very proud. She was a school prefect in Gr 12 in 2025 and played first team netball. During high school, her loving nature and kind demeanour made her a very popular student. Asemahle was also a hostel prefect as she was a weekly boarder and having her around, made life very pleasant for all our students who lived with Asemahle. Therefor, it is no surprise that she was selected by Born in Africa to further her tertiary studies. At the beginning of 2026, she commenced her Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of the Western Cape. She will be selecting her speciality in a year or two’s time, but it is very clear that the business world is where she wants to work in. We have faith that our Asemahle is going to be making us extremely proud in the classroom, but also on the netball court at UDubs!
Athule Ngam
Tertiary Institution: Stellenbosch University
Field of study: Bachelor in Nursing
Athule Ngam hails from Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay. Graduating in the Top 3 in 2023 from her high school, she commenced her tertiary studies at Stellenbosch University at the beginning of 2024. Athule is studying at the Belville Medical Faculty towards her Bachelor of Nursing degree. Occasionally, a student comes along who surprises one, puts things back into perspective and Athule is this very student. At school she was one of the more reserved learners with her nose in her books. Since the onset of her tertiary career, she has blossomed into a young lady with loads of confidence, visiting her BIA family on every visit to Plettenberg Bay. We are so impressed by her academic results this far and although her course is one of the more intense ones, we have the utmost confidence in Athule.
Avuye Mkalipi

Field of study: 3 year-BCom/BBusSc Actuarial Science
Avuye is one of 2 siblings who was raised by her single mom, hailing from Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay. This young lady has always been a top performer when I comes to academics because of the many hours and serious effort she puts into her studies. No wonder she was her high schools Top Achiever when she graduated from Gr 12. She was also her schools Vice President which is a very prestigious leadership role to fulfil. We are super proud that Avuye is our first Born in Africa student to be accepted to study at UCT and even more so that she is studying such a difficult field of mathematics and statistics methodology. We wish her all the best of luck and will walk this path right beside her.
Bernice Manu
Tertiary institution: Emeris University, Port Elizabeth
Field of study: 4 year-BCom Strategic Management
We would like to introduce you to Bernice Manu who joined the Born in Africa program in 2025, together with her younger sister Peace. Bernice completed her high school career at Wittedrift High school that same year. During her final year of high school, we enrolled Bernice at Huis Kritzinger, the high school hostel where she was able to work on becoming independent enough to embark on her tertiary journey which began in 2026. Bernice then commenced her 4-year Bachelor in Commerce degree in Strategic Management at the renowned Emeris University in Port Elizabeth. Her family lives in Kwanokuthula, on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay. Her parents run a hair salon from the front of their home. During weekends and holidays, Bernice always helped both her parents at the salon. This wonderful skill, she has transformed into a lucrative hobby. We are incredibly proud to represent Bernice as her sponsors, mentors, and biggest fans during her tertiary studies. We know that she will make us as well as her parents incredibly proud.
Caitlin Cunningham
Tertiary Institution: Varsity College, Cape Town
Field of study: 4-year Bachelor of Education specializing in Intermediate Phase teaching
She graduated from Wittedrift High school in 2023 and just like that Caitlin has moved in right next to Newlands Cricket Stadium, where she will commence her Tertiary studies at Varsity College in 2024. Until that point, Caitlin has called Kranshoek home where she lives with her mother and father in a rural farm setting. She chose to study a 4-year Bachelor of Education specializing in Intermediate Phase teaching which, to the laymen, is Gr 3 to Gr 9. Not only will Caitlin be able to study at a private university, but she will also be able to really further her sporting career. She plays both ladies cricket, netball as well as soccer. We are very excited to be able to support Caitlin with her tertiary journey.
Cheinique Seedat

Field of study: Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy
Cheinique Seedat hails from Kurland Village, The Crags where she grew up and joined Born in Africa right from the get-go in Grade 1! When she was in Gr 8, she was awarded the Born in Africa Wittedrift High study bursary and completed her high school career in 2023. It’s amazing to see Cheinique embark on her tertiary studies in February of 2024, 13 years after joining the BIA family. She pursues a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy at the University of the Western Cape. This is a full-time four-year degree which will include quite an extensive off campus practical experience component. Giving Chenique’s beautiful caring and giving nature, this career suites her to a tee! We would like to wish her well with her studies, we know her heart, mind and soul, are all where they are meant to be!
Chelsey Roberts

Becoming a Social Worker is an incredibly noble career. It is evident that the young person destined for this career cares for the wellbeing of those who cannot speak or defend themselves. Chelsey Roberts, who hails from New Horizons, Plettenberg Bay, really embodies someone who wants to better the lives of others. Therefore, we have no doubt that she is going to embark on her studies with the correct attitude and we are very proud to support her in this endeavour! Chelsey joined the Born in Africa program when she was in Gr 10, a high school learner at Wittedrift High. Already in high school, she spearheaded the school paper, now a quarterly additional called Crescendo Chronical. Chelsey was also a part of the school prefect council, and she enjoyed netball as a school sport. She is studying a Bachelor of Social Work at Stellenbosch university.
Hlumisa Madolo

My name is Hlumisa Madolo, the eldest of 3 children. I attended Wittedrift High School and was granted a Born in Africa scholarship thanks to my excellent school results and behaviour. My parents separated in my early years of high school, and it’s been difficult since then. We lived with my mom in Kranshoek for a while then in my matric year moved to my dad’s in Kwanokuthula. Some family hiccups caused some strain here and there, but I aspire to be a better me. In 2022 I started studying in Cape Town at the University of Cape Town. I am doing a Bachelor of Social Sciences and will be majoring in Psychology and Organisational Psychology. These majors are inspired by my interest in the works of the brain within individuals and groups of people. I want to work and so that I can offer my loved ones a better life and plough back in my community.
Jenrico Alexander

Field of study: Bachelor of Arts degree
Jenrico Alexander commenced his first year as a Tertiary student in 2026. It has always been his dream to become a teacher, and at the beginning of 2026, he started working towards realising this dream. He is currently studying a 3-year Bachelor of Arts degree at the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth. Once qualified, he will not only have a very valuable degree but also be in the position to either become a schoolteacher, high school or primary, or even study further and qualify in any other humanities career area. We are super proud that Jenrico has made it this far in his life and the fact that he has never allowed personal circumstances to hinder his success. He is a very motivated young man who, given the right guidance and tools in life, will go very far. In fact, Jenrico is the master of his own destiny and thus far has proven to us all that his successful high school is just the beginning of much to come. We are very proud to represent this young man during his tertiary studies.
Leighton Jonas

Field of Study: BA- major in Public Administration
It was such a memorable moment for us when Leighton joined the Born in Africa program, at the end of his Gr 11 school year. Leighton graduated at Wittedrift High School at the end of 2024. During his final year at school, he played cricket for his school’s First Team, and he was also rated a very valuable member of the First Rugby Team. He was chosen as a school prefect in Gr 12 and received an accolade for Afrikaans First Language. We are delighted to mention that Leighton then decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and work as a public servant one day. He commenced his studies at the beginning of 2025 at The University of the Western Cape. His degree is called a Bachelor of Arts degree, and he will major in Public Administration. No doubt, with Leighton on board, our municipality will be in safe hands one day! We are very proud to sponsor his studies over the next 4 years.
Leekisha Jordaan

Leekisha Jordaan joined the Born in Africa program in 2025, just before she graduated from Plettenberg Bay Secondary High school. She lives in New Horizons with her family. It is such a pleasure to be able to offer a young person a bursary without doubting her commitment for a second and this is exactly the feeling we had when we interviewed Leekisha. With fond memories we look back at the rainy Saturday morning we paid the family a visit and we were greeted with open arms by her and her father. The interview concluded in her Born in Africa acceptance and without hesitating we started working on her tertiary studies. We are very happy to announce that she was accepted to study a Bachelor of Commerce at Emeris Academy in Gqeberha in 2026. Kisha as we already fondly call her, placed second in Gr 12 academically when she graduated from high school at the end of 2025. We trust this is going to be a very fruitful and happy 4 years for Leekisha!
Llu- Esha Gysman

Llu-Esha Gysman grew up in Kurland Village, The Crags. At the beginning of 2025, she commenced her tertiary studies at Varsity College in Cape Town. It has been her lifelong dream to be of service and this she is doing by studying a Bachelor of Arts degree specialising in Psychology. This is a 4-year degree which she will be pursuing. Once she has graduated, she is able to complete her honours degree specialising in Psychology. During her high school career, she was nominated as a school prefect in her final year at Wittedrift High and she was a valuable netball player to her school team. Llu-Esha also became a hostel prefect in her final year at high school. Earning her Born in Africa Wittedrift High Academic bursary was a huge honour for Llu-Esha who rightfully deserved this accolade as she excelled academically. Born in Africa is very proud to continue supporting her throughout her tertiary studies.
Lunisha Brandt

Field of Study: Higher Certificate in Legal Studies
Our Lunisha Brand who grew up in Green Valley and attended Wittedrift High school, has just commenced her tertiary dream. She has always wanted to work in the legal profession. Being a lawyer in South Africa is a very tough career to gain entrance into and therefor Lunisha has decided to do things the smarter route. Since 2026, she is studying a Higher Certificate in Legal Studies which is going to give her the upper hand once she graduates. She won’t be obligated to complete 2 additional years of articles as lawyer scholars in South Africa have to. She will be able to step straight in the position of a Legal Secretary and work her way up the ranks. We are incredibly proud of Lunisha who has been a part of our program since her primary school years. Supporting Lunisha in this next adventure she has just embarked upon is a great honour for us to support. We wish her all the best of luck for this year!
Meshay Jacobs

As Meshay Jacobs embarked on this exciting new chapter in her academic journey at the beginning of 2025, we can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride and joy. Pursuing a teaching degree at Varsity College for the next four years is a testament to her unwavering dedication and perseverance. Meshay grew up in Kranshoek and joined the Born in Africa program when she was in grade 7 at Harkerville Primary School. She attended and completed her high school career at Plettenberg Bay Secondary school. Born in Africa is honoured to be supporting Meshay on this significant milestone in her educational journey. Things were not always easy at home, yet this did not ever stand in her way. Meshay’s story embodies the very spirit of our mission. We believe in her potential and are confident that she will make a positive impact in the lives of her future students. This will be a 4-year degree she is pursuing in Intermediate phase teaching which means she will graduate as a primary school teacher.
Nadine Hoffman

It’s always been business for our Nadine. Since primary school, she wanted to work in the corporate world and now she is starting the realise her own dream and we couldn’t be any prouder of her! Nadine who also stood 3rd for Academic achievement at Wittedrift Highschool during her final Gr 12 year in 2025, commenced her studies at Stellenbosch University in 2026. Coincidently, this has also always been a dream for her, to study at Stellies. Now this dream has been realised by her brilliance and determination. Nadine hails from Kranshoek, just West of Plettenberg Bay. She attended Kranshoek Primary school and was then selected by Born in Africa. At the end of her primary school years, she was selected to attend Wittedrift Highschool as she was awarded a scholarship due to her brilliant academic results. She also played netball during her high school years, participated in various school plays, public speaking and was selected to represent her school as prefect during her final year. She was also the recipient of the Fish Eagle award, during her high school career. Now, Nadine is studying towards her Bachelor of Commerce degree at Stellenbosch, and she is loving every moment. Her days are very busy and because she has always been so independent, she is managing very well to adapt to student life. We are very proud of her and are very proud to support Nadine.
Natasha Williams

Natasha Williams grew up in Kurland Village, The Crags. She attended Crags Primary school during her first educational years, and it was then when she was selected to be a part of something so special and unique, and that was when her journey started with Born in Africa. For her high school years, she attended Plettenberg Bay Secondary school, and this is also where she graduated in the Top 10 Academia at the end of 2024. With the onset of 2025, Natasha commenced a new chapter in her life, and this is the chapter of her tertiary education journey. Because of her excellent final year results, she was the recipient of the Born in Africa Tertiary study bursary. In February of 2025 Natasha started her 4-year Bachelor of Education Intermediate Phase at Varsity College which is situated in Cape Town. We have placed our faith in this young lady, who we are very proud to support!
Obuhle Madolo

Field of Study: Bachelor of Social Science
We remember fondly how our Obuhle Madolo used to be the smallest learner during our afternoon group sessions and that was because she was the youngest too! When she joined the Born in Africa program, she was a learner at Wittedrift High Primary. Because of her outstanding academic record, she was a Born in Africa Wittedrift High bursary recipient in Gr 8. This bursary meant that Obuhle could focus on academics, sport, and culture. She excelled at sport during her high school career and was a very valuable netball team player, also during athletics at school, she was one of the main cheerleaders. During her final year at school, Obuhle served her school as a prefect, and she was also nominated as a hostel prefect. During high school her diverse talents also saw her on stage during two productions the school presented which was “Pirates of Penzance” as well as a “Oklahoma”. Now, Obuhle has claimed a Born in Africa Tertiary Bursary, and she commenced her studies at the University of the Western Campe where she is studying towards a Batchelor of Social Sciences degree. She is very much interested in moving over to Law in her second year. We are proud of our Obuhle, how far she has come and the solid foundation she has very successfully created thus far.
Phoebe Wiesie

Phoebe Wiesie started her primary schooling at Kranshoek Primary, where she also joined the Born in Africa, and progressed to Plettenberg Bay Secondary school where she completed her 5 years of high school. Attending such a big school can be quite daunting with often over 50 learners in her classroom, nevertheless, our Phoebe proved herself to be an exceptional student and managed to graduate with very good results. Phoebe has always been passionate about starting her own business and this is why she chose to study a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Emeris university situated in Port Elizabeth, which is in the Eastern Cape, about 3 hours’ drive East of Plettenberg Bay. This will be a 4-year course and with Emeris being a private university, her classes will be so much smaller, the personal attention she will be receiving will be extremely rewarding. In her free time, she enjoys playing netball we hope that she will continue her passion for this sport at university level. We wish our Phoebe well as she embarks on her tertiary studies as a first-year student in 2026!
Quinique Bernardo

Our Quinique Bernardo commenced her 1st year at Stellenbosch university in 2023 where she will study at Bachelor of Science(Human Life Sciences) degree and her focal point will be Biology. Quinique completed high school at Wittedrift High in 2022 where she obtained no less than 5 distinctions. During her high school career, she very tragically lost her father who she was very close to. I would imagine he is looking down at her, smiling from ear to ear, bursting with pride! We too are just so incredibly proud of her and her dedication to her craft. This is the beginning of her future and we pledge our support to Quinique, and we so look forward to walking this journey with her.
Rouvay Powie

Rouvay Powie hails from Kurland Village, The Crags. She has been a part of the Born in Africa program since she was a little girl at Crags Primary. Because of her good grades then she was awarded the bursary to study at Wittedrift High. In 2022 she graduated from high school and then commenced her 1st year in the 4-year B Curr Nursing course which is a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of the Western Cape. This course is very demanding as there are many practical hours which the students must complete each year. We wish her all the best and may she prosper.
Shakifa Alexander
Tertiary Institution: Varsity College Cape Town
Field of Study: BCom Law
Shakifa Alexander is a young lady who is a force to be reckoned with and for this reason, when she decided to study Law, we backed her immediately. Shakifa joined the Born in Africa program when she was a learner at Kranshoek Primary school and was then selected to complete her high school career at Wittedrift High school. During her high school career, she flourished academically and completed Gr 12 in the Top 10 Academic performers in 2024. She also served as a hostel prefect and was on her school prefect society. She participated as a school cheer leader in her final year of school and prior to that always played netball as a winter sport. During the summer sport curriculum, she served as the school cricket score keeper which meant she toured with her school’s cricket team. At boarding school, which she attended from Gr 8 to Gr 12, Shakifa was a pillar for her peers, always protecting their best interests. Having completed her high school, she commenced her LLB Law degree in 2025, a 4-year theoretical with trials degree at the private Varsity College in Cape Town. We are confident that Shakifa will carry the Born in Africa name proudly as she seeks justice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Shanice Olivier

Shanice Olivier joined the Born in Africa program in high school. She came very highly recommended by her school and when we met her, it was evident that she was a perfect candidate for the Born in Africa program. She passed her final year at Wittedrift high with flying colours and was accepted at Stellenbosch University. In 2023 she commenced her 1st year studying a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities. She plans to major in Psychology. We wish Shanice only the best as she truly deserves it.
Sixolile Mbopa

Sixolile Mbopa hails from Kranshoek. She graduated from Wittedrift High in 2022 and then commenced her 1st year in a LLB Law degree at Stellenbosch university. It has always been her dream to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate and with this degree she feels it will be the beginning of that journey for her. We are very proud to continue our sponsorship of Sixi as she embarks on her studies.
Sixolise Masoka

Field of Study: BCom Financial Accounting
Sixolise Masoka graduated Top of his class at the end of 2024 at Wittedrift High School. Sixo joined the Born in Africa program when his class teacher at Plett Secondary contacted us because of his outstanding academic results. Sixo was raised by his grandmother in Kwanokuthula and when he joined our program, his excellent school results and work ethic qualified him for a BIA study bursary to attend Wittedrift High. Sixo immediately felt at home at his new school and the achievements quickly piled on: he spent 2 years as hostel prefect, participated in the National Mathematics Olympiad, obtained the school’s Fish Eagle trophy, he was selected as a school prefect in his final year and was also selected as the school’s Dux student in 2024. He was also able to attend the weekly boarding school which gave him the freedom and opportunity to focus all his attention on his studies. In 2025 he commenced his tertiary studies at The University of Cape Town and in the field of of Accounting. It is his dream to specialize in Economics in his Post Graduate Studies.
Solakha Noyi

We would like to introduce to you our Solakha Noyi who hails from Kwanokuthula, just outside Plettenberg Bay. Solakha joined Born in Africa while she was in high school attending Wittedrift High. Wow, we didn’t realise at first just exactly how talented and gifted this young lady was, until she unveiled to us all the projects and programs she was involved in. During her high school career, she became Junior Police Commissioner for Plettenberg Bay. She also visited Geneva, Switzerland as she is an avid child advocate for several organisations. At school in her final year in 2025, she was selected as Vice President and also served 2 years as a hostel prefect. Solakha played hockey for her school’s first team and was always ready to take on any project which would benefit others. She gave of herself during her high school career. Now, Solakha is doing something for herself and that is realising her own dreams. She has been accepted to study at the renowned University of Pretoria. Yes, she is very far away from the Born in Africa mother ship and this is a first for us too, but with her tenacity, it was condoned. She is studying a Bachelor degree of Political Sciences specialising in International Relations. Yes, although this course might sound challenging to most of us, we are certain, Solakha has got this one! We wish Solakha all the best for her studies, we continue to be her biggest fans!
Tasha Matsigila

Tasha Matsigila graduated from Wittedrift High School in 2023. We very fondly remember the day Tasha joined the Born in Africa program and this was in her Gr 11 academic year. Indeed, she has not been in the program for years, however the impression she has left thus far is, is a very proud one. In 2024, Tasha was accepted to study for a Bachelor of Arts degree at esteemed Rhodes university in Grahamstown and a more suited university to Tasha you will not find! We have no doubt she is going to explore the rich cultural diversity of this beautiful tertiary institution and immerse herself not only in her degree, but also the various cultural clubs and forums that are on offer. Born in Africa would like to wish Tasha all the best for her studies, we have no doubt she is going to soar like an Eagle and do herself, her family and Born in Africa proud.
Tasmeen Janklaas

I’m Tasmeen Janklaas from Wittedrif, Green Valley. I grew up in a small house with my grandmother until grade 7 when I decided to go and stay with my father. Now I’m currently staying with my aunt and uncle. I went to Wittedrif Primary School and then went to Wittedrif High School, where I finished matric. I’m currently studying Education at Varsity College in Port Elizabeth. Once I graduate, I want to be a good teacher at a very good school. A teacher that can make a difference in other people’s lives and also someone they can look up to.
Thubelihle Doyi

Field of Study: Bachelor in Law
Thube Doyi joined Born in Africa officially at the end of her Gr 11 year. She graduated from Wittedrift High at the end of 2024 and in 2025 her dream of furthering her tertiary studies has become a reality. Thube has always been very interested in the complex world of Law. To ensure she is making the correct decision, she embarked on a 1-year Higher Certificate in Legal Studies at Varsity College in Cape Town. Once she has completed this course successfully, she will be able to enrol in the Bachelor of Laws degree which will see her studying 4 years of theory followed by another 2 years of article work. During her school career at Wittedrift High, she was selected as a school prefect because of her leadership skills. Thube was also a very valuable player of the school’s senior hockey team. Embarking on her tertiary studies does not only make us incredibly proud to be able to assist her, but also her mother Mimz who has always been her biggest supporter back home in Kwanokuthula.
Yasmine Kriga

Field of study: 3-year LLB Bachelor in Law & Bachelor of Arts in Law
To become a lawyer is not for anyone, especially when you look at the amount of studying involved. Our Yasmine who lives in Kurland Village the Crags, being raised by her single mom, and deputy head girl of Wittedrift high in 2019, first tested the legal waters by completing a year higher certificate in legal studies. Once completed, she decided to pursue the gruelling LLB Law degree at Varsity College in Port Elizabeth. After obtaining this qualification in 2023, she commenced the Bachelor of Arts in Law.
