Exonia was raised by her grandparents in Kwanokuthula and by Born in Africa as well when her grandparents moved away! This young lady joined the Born in Africa program in high school and we enrolled her at Wittedrift High were she graduated despite many personal adversities.
Siya, as she is fondly known, grew up in Plettenberg Bay. Sadly her father passed away when she was a young girl. Her mother, a teacher, raised her and her young sister single handedly.

uduwaan completed his four year degree in 2016 at the University of the Western Cape with a Bachelor in Teaching. It is his dream to return to his community and teach at a school there. He also wants to inspire the youth in his community to step out of their comfort zone and reach for their dreams.

Jo-Anne grew up with tough circumstances. She was raised by her aunt as her mother was not in a position to take care of her.
Merilene Hartley joined the Born in Africa programme when she was at Kranshoek Primary. She is one of five siblings raised by a single mother.
It was such a memorable moment for us when Leighton joined the Born in Africa program, at the end of his Gr 11 school year. Leighton graduated at Wittedrift High School at the end of 2024.
